Patriotic Flag Designs
Here’s a great lesson for Memorial Day…. I do this with my 1st graders, but any age could have fun with it. Easy to prep, no clean-up, everyone’s successful, and the kids LOVE it…. you can’t beat that! And this project can be used for any country by simply using the design elements and colors found in that country’s flag.
Materials:
- 9×12 white paper
- Black “F” Sharpie
- Red and blue markers
Directions:
1. Discuss the American flag and what it symbolizes. (This is a great opportunity to talk about “freedom” and why we celebrate Memorial Day!)
2. Notice the features that make our flag unique (stars, stripes, red, white and blue).
3. Now, rearrange these features to create a new flag design!
4. See how using these same design elements allows these new flags to still look “American“!
Excellent project! Just the right combination of things to make it successful.
