Happy Birthday Teach Kids Art

(Visit me on Instagram for a chance to win my TEN most popular products from my TPT store!)

Ten years ago today, Teach Kids Art was born!

I was teaching K-8 Art at a small private school and putting SO much work into every lesson I taught. It was rare for schools to provide an Art curriculum to work from…. most Art teachers were just expected to create their own. And this was long before we had Pinterest to help us plan our lessons! Back in those days, we would scour art books and magazines for inspiration to create our projects. Research alone took hours, not to mention all the trial and error of project creation. Every lesson taught was a labor of love!

With so much heart and soul going into each project, I wanted a way to share my lessons with more than just the 230 or so kids I saw each week at my school.

At that time, blogging was just becoming “a thing” and I was only aware of one other elementary art teacher who was posting projects online (Kathy Barbro from Art Projects for Kids). I had no idea if this whole blogging thing was going to catch on, but I decided to give it a try, hoping to share my lessons with a wider audience. If other art teachers could find my blog and use my lessons with their students, then the amount of time it took to create each one would make a little more sense!

Fast forward to 2018 and almost 400 Teach Kids Art blog posts later…. blogging did indeed catch on! Today countless Art teachers share their projects through websites, blogs, videos, online trainings, and social media. With so much inspiration now at our fingertips, teachers everywhere can create a world class art education for their students. And the students are the real winners!

Although I’m no longer in the classroom, I continue to love sharing all things related to kids’ art here on my website, in my Teachers Pay Teachers store, and on social media. My mission now is to encourage, inspire, and equip the next generation of Art teachers to provide the best possible art experiences for their students.
